This new fact sheet from the Center for American Progress and the Out2Enroll initiative highlights the key messages to help lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people understand and participate in the new health insurance marketplaces that will begin enrollment on October 1, 2013. The four key messages are:
- You will be able to shop online, over the phone, or in person for a health insurance plan that fits your budget.
- Every health insurance plan will have to cover a core set of basic benefits.
- LGBT people will have the same access to health insurance coverage through the health insurance marketplaces as anyone else.
- The health insurance marketplaces will help you navigate your options and enroll in coverage that’s right for you.
The Out2Enroll initiative has been established by the Center for American Progress, Sellers Dorsey Foundation, and Federal Agencies Project and was launched yesterday with a briefing at the White House that included participation by Senior Advisor to the President Valerie Jarrett, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, and the three co-chairs of the Department of Health and Human Services LGBT Coordinating Committee, Assistant Secretary for Health Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Aging Kathy Greenlee, and Deputy General Counsel Ken Choe.
