On April 16, President Obama signed H.R. 2, the Medicare Access and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) Reauthorization Act of 2015, into law. The repeal of the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) payment schedule is effective immediately. The law reauthorizes the CHIP for two years, through 2017. It also maintains funding for community health centers, the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) and the Teaching Health Centers Graduate Medical Education (THCGME) Program for two years.
An amendment that would have restored the parity of payments to primary care physicians under the Medicaid program (to increase Medicaid rates to Medicare rates, as authorized for two years under the Affordable Care Act) was defeated in the Senate.
