The Institute of Medicine Roundtable on Health Literacy has developed a series of materials to assist health care consumers and providers understand the basics of health insurance in the U.S. With the October 2013 launch of the health insurance marketplaces established under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, many individuals still have questions about how health insurance coverage works, and what questions should be asked in choosing the appropriate health insurance plan.
The four questions answered by the materials are:
1. What are my choices for health insurance?
2. How do I get it?
3. How do I use it?
4. How much will it cost me?
The materials include a discussion paper, a consumer guide, a video, and a slide set.
