This analysis of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act from the National Coalition on LGBT Health examines how each section of the national health care reform legislation is relevant to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. There are important sections of the law that impact lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals both as patients and as health care providers. There also are numerous opportunities at both the federal and state government levels to represent lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community interests in advisory bodies and in the implementation of the law, especially on issues of data collection, research, cultural competency, workforce development, and disparities.
