This policy brief from the National Academy for State Health Policy, funded by The Commonwealth Fund, describes efforts by selected states to improve health care quality and efficiency.  The strategies used by states include data collection, public reporting, payment reform, consumer engagement, and provider engagement. The report highlights how these strategies preview potential activities by states to implement parts of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, which will require increased efforts by states to demonstrate progress on quality improvement.
