The Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters has opened its applications for national certification of healthcare interpreters. The Commission developed a national, valid, credible, vendor-neutral certification process with the input and participation of nearly 2,500 stakeholders. Two types of national credentials are now available: an Associate Healthcare Interpreter credential for interpreters for all languages and a Spanish Certified Healthcare Interpreter certification for Spanish interpreters. The Commission is working to develop Certified Healthcare Interpreter certifications for other languages as quickly as possible. There is a $30 application fee to begin the process, plus an examination fee of $175 for the Associate Healthcare Interpreter (two hour, written) examination, and then $250 for the Certified Healthcare Interpreter (one hour, oral) examination. More information about the certification process, including a Test Content Blueprint and Certification Examination Handbook are available on the Commission website.
