This policy report from the Integrated Healthcare Association characterizes the work of multi-specialty medical groups and independent physician associations as accountable care organizations (ACOs). Among the lessons learned from the California experience is that “special attention must be given to establishing ACOs in areas with social and economic challenges.” The report was released at the National Accountable Care Organization Congress in Century City, California.
