This federal coordinating council for comparative Effectiveness research was convened to provide federal government-wide input and guidance into the $1.1 billion appropriated for comparative effectiveness research by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The council was abolished by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The PPACA establishes a non-governmental Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute to plan, coordinate and oversee national comparative effectiveness research activities.
